How to pitch - Sample letter

Assalam warahmatullah hiwabarakah.

As a freelance writer (it depends how commercial or what type of writer are you), ada few types of pitching yang kita boleh buat.  Paling simple ialah sewaktu kita mahu apply as a freelance, iaitu ketika menghantar e-mail application.  Cover letter tu kena cun!

How cun is cun?  Most writers akan minta job as a copywriter, or writer or maybe a translator. Sometimes there's job opening as a subtitling manager/freelancer and script writer and macam-macam la. Semua job 'writing' ini akan menjurus kepada...KREATIVITI...betul tak?  So, sewaktu mahu apply, the first thing yang kita akan tonjolkan ialah kreativiti.  How we think as a writer and we act like one...

From a modest, humble business, with an extra guts, the business falls in a correct place and now it's growing steadily in the local market as well as other countries.

I have experience growing together with a company. 12 years experience as a creative writer for several magazines makes me a versatile writer.  From all areas, from fashion, cover story,  entertainment,  recipe, spas etc.

I would like to join your company as a copywriter, not because that I have the experience that may be useful for the post, but it's more of the passion that I have towards creative writing.

Above ialah my cover letter to a local company apabila I wanted to join them as a copywriter.  Alhamdulillah, I got reply from them, diberi peluang interview dan job offer. Alhamdulillah...

Kenapa saya pilih untuk hantar cover letter yang bermula dengan jalan cerita company tersebut?  Pada fikiran saya, 'Bukan ke aku ni nak minta as a copywriter or creative writer?  So, kenapa nak formal sangat kan...'

Bukanlah saya kata, x boleh nak formal atau berdosa sangat formal tu...tidak...but sebagai penulis yang kreatif, kita kena tahu apa yang menarik untuk dibaca and apa yang tidak.  And kita sedia maklum dah, kalau ada job opening, mesti ratus or even ribu org apply kan...so, kadang-kala dorang randomly choose especially kalau kita hantar application lewat few days...jadi, kalau melalui cover letter tu kita tampil different from other candidates, In shaa Allah cerah juga la peluang nak dapat interview session... :)

My name is Norliza Ismail, or you can call me Jaja.  I'm writing in response to your ad for a home based copywriter.  Simply put, I'm ready for this line of work!

Brief background about me, I worked as a writer at a publishing for more than 12 years.  Basically, being a writer is totally not a job, but it's my passion.  I already have this passion when I was in my primary age, and the same tone of excitement still lives inside me when I get to write something, for somebody, in any form of article, name it!

I started to work, home based back in 2012, and I'm comfortable working as a freelance.  I love to write and love to venture into all sorts of writing type.  I love to learn new things and never feel that I need to shy away from critical feedback, but I embrace it as a necessary constituent of the creative process.  And...
