2016, tahun mencabar bagi kebanyakan orang. Terutama untuk mereka yang mengambil keputusan untuk bekerja sendiri. Bekerja sendiri banyak cabarannya, paling ketara ialah ia menuntut 'non-fix' income, tidak sama seperti bekerja bermajikan. But, it's fun...and full of freedom. To accept or not to accept jobs, all up to you. You decide...kalau rasa nak rest sekejap, boleh je. Tak ada siapa nak halang.
I'm a freelance writer, operated fully from home. I don't have a maid so being a home based writer ni menuntut 24/7 job. House to keep clean, food to be cook, kids to look after and jobs/deadline to secure. It's not easy but yet it's not that hard to manage.
How to start? Firstly, make a compilation on all your past jobs. Mesti ada articles, postings etc, compile and start buat portfolio. Secondly, you pitch jobs. How? Check all recruitment sites plus all freelancers (reliable sites) untuk apply for any offered jobs. If you're lucky, sekejap saja dah ada offer. If not, sabar banyak2 and jangan stop pitching.
How to pitch a job? I often guna jobstreet sebab site ni reliable. And I can check most of the companies yang advertised. Kita tak nak end up servicing untuk client yang fraud and hanya nak gunakan skill kita for free. So, nak pitch pun kena tengok juga jenis and location company tu. Plus, kena juga check background. Sebab, kadang-kala ada company yang berselindung di sebalik pertubuhan yang mencurigakan. So always kena buat research and rajin online and double check okay.
Usually, di Malaysia ni, susah juga nak pitch home based job. Usually dorang prefer to hire a fulltime staff. But nevermind, No harm trying. Cuba sahaja hantar resume dan samples of your work, bukan semua tapi choose yang relevant. Email sahaja, jika mereka call for an interview, then you prepare the rest.
My advice, jika browse dan jumpa any company yang perlukan writer sama ada as a fulltime (most of it) or part time, just pitch the job. Kita try our luck tapi make sure always buat homework about the company, their business and kalau ada opportunity untuk tahu mengenai owner or related bosses, lagi bagus. Kita prepare, bila ready dengan all the infos kita akan jadi lebih confidence.
